Your Mexican girlfriend wants a date. You know just the man: tall, intelligent and Catholic. And Polish. Where do you send them? L' Autre, a teeny bar- restaurant encrusted in black-and-white stills of Greta Garbo, will at least let them sample each other's cuisine in comfort. Yes, this charming Canadian-owned venue is, as far as I know, London's only Polish-Mexican restaurant. Their last chef, a Mexican, was replaced by a Pole, but they had by then become popular with the staff of the Mexican Embassy round the corner, so they kept the first menu to hold on to a good thing. Bortsch (£2.50) is delicious followed by an enchilada (£7.50) or some spicy Pirozhki dumplings (£7.95). Barking mad, but successfully so.
