Luna is reproductive health manager for the medical charity Merlin (www.merlin.org.uk) As well as substantial experience with Merlin in improving family planning and post abortion care services in fragile states such as Pakistan and DR Congo, Luna also has 10 years of experience as an obstetrician and gynaecologist. Having previously worked for Médecins Sans Frontières, she is an expert in her field and has worked in hospitals around the world, not least Sierra Leone, Pakistan, Ethiopia and India and holds an MSc from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Women admitted into the maternity ward at Roi Baudoin hospital in Kinshasa are counselled by a staff member after they've been detained at the hospital for non-payment of medical fees, on March 3, 2010. Thousands of new mothers are detained in hopsitals in the Democratic Republic of Congo capital, Kinshasa with authorities estimating that at least 20 per cent of women among up to 200 patients-a-month admitted into labour wards are held in hospitals, for months sometimes, for lack of funds to pay their medical bills following childbirth.
