Bioneers Conference celebrates 20 years of green solutions (reminder)

For the 20th anniversary, the Bioneers Conference, an environmental, social and scientific gathering with seminars, courses, and speakers meets at the Marin Center in San Rafael, California, October 16-18.

The founder of the nonprofit educational organization, Kenny Ausubel, coined the term "bioneers" in 1990. The congerence refers to innovative solutions for restoring the planet through imitating nature, such as the session, The Living Building Challenge: Can You Match Nature's Design Elegance.

Each day about 20 sessions will cover environmental topics from the future of architecture to clean energy, reforestation to rehydration. Among the many speakers involved the following will lead events:

-Michael Pollan, author of The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals, speaks on "In Defense of Food: The Omnivore's Solution."

-Dr. Andrew Weil, bestselling author of Eight Weeks to Optimum Health, does a presentation on the "Environmental Health, Environmental Medicine."

-Annie Leonard addresses her film "The Story of Stuff," seen on YouTube, about consumerism, and how "stuff" turns into waste for generations.

Editors from social/political magazine, Mother Jones, conduct a panel on "The Transformation of Journalism and Media."

With many sessions bridging the gap between modern systems and indigenous traditional wisdom, there are "intensives" on October 15 and 19, daily herb walks, sustainable farm field trips, and a permaculture garden workshop.

Also, the Moving Image Festival will screen films on the topic, including Food, Inc., The Yes Men Fix the World, The People's Grocery, A Sea Change, Witness to Hiroshima, Children of the Amazon, Silent Snow, Dirt! The Movie, and Earth Days.

The program will be transmitted to more than 18 locations nationwide, from Santa Fe, New Mexico to Portland, Maine.
