Brigitte Bardot will not have to emigrate to Russia after all. The actress and animal-lover, right, had threatened to leave France if the government pressed ahead with plans to destroy two TB-infected elephants in a Lyon zoo.
France’s state watchdog, the Conseil d’Etat, gave a reprieve to the retired circus elephants. The council ruled the state had failed to prove killing the animals was necessary to prevent the spread of TB. “This is a great relief,” Ms Bardot, 78, said.
