Green agenda: Natural Products Expo, Solar Decathlon

Over the coming weeks the environmental issues surrounding food production and consumption will be addressed at the 26th edition of the Natural Products Expo East which returns to Baltimore after being held in Boston for the past three years. In Washington the 5th Solar Decathlon will challenge college teams' energy-saving ingenuity design skills, following which the latest 'green' building techniques will be presented at Green Build International.

This year's edition of Natural Products Expo East returns to Baltimore after being held in Boston for three years.  More than 1,300 health and beauty products, natural and specialty foods, pet products and supplements will be showcased this year. Author, environmentalist and producer Laurie David will also speak about the positive impact adults and kids can have on the planet. Last year, more than 19,300 attendees from 96 countries took in the expo. The event is also co-located with The Organic Summit and Biofach America: All Things Organic. http://www.expoeast.com FacebookTwitter 5th Solar Decathlon September 23- October 2 National Mall, West Potomac Park Washington DC, USA Map The Solar Decathlon backed by the US Department of Energy, challenges collegiate teams to design, build and then operate cost-effective and energy efficient solar-powered houses. The event which is open to members of the public and free of charge aims to inspire visitors to use energy-saving technology in their own homes. SXSW Eco October 4-6 Hilton Hotel United States, Austin, Texas, Map SXSW Eco is a three-day conference addressing the need for a concentrated, cross-section approach to the environmental challenges facing the world today. The event borrows its name from music and tech event SXSW, also held in Texas earlier this year from March 11-20. SXSW Eco attracts professionals at the forefront of private, public, professional and academic industries who are dedicated to making progress on environmental issues. This year keynote speakers include eco-minded futurist and founder of Worldchanging magazine Alex Steffen; Mark Tercek CEO of the Nature Conservancy and environmental activist and member of Earth Echo International Philippe Cousteau Jr., grandson of legendry explorer Captain Jacques Yves Cousteau.   http://sxsweco.com

Greenbuild International conference and expo  October 4-7  Toronto Convention Center  Canada, Toronto  Map

As one of the world's largest expos dedicated to the green building trade, Greenbuild attracts a mixture of industry professionals, students, urban planners and non-profit organizations. The event features a series of educational seminars and discussions on the green building industry and showcases the latest in eco-friendly construction technologies. 2011 marks the first year that the event has been held outside of the United States. http://www.greenbuildexpo.org

World Solar Challenge begins October 16 Darwin, Australia

The World Solar Challenge is one of the toughest competitions in the eco-motoring world. Solar Power International 2011 October 17-20 Dallas Convention Center United States, Texas Map Solar Power International focuses on all aspects of solar power, including marketing, manufacturing and product development. In 2009 the event attracted over 24,000 visitors from the solar power trade, over 3,000 public attendees and upwards of 930 exhibitors.
