After much discussion, New Zealand has opted to change it's flag, unveiling a Silver Fern.

The black, white and blue flag came out on top after a referendum and will replace the old one- which depicts the Union jack- after almost one hundred years.

The study of flags, or vexillology, was invented by Whitney Smith in 1957. Smith was probably the biggest flag fan ever - he devoted his entire life to bringing big flag fans together to do flag-related stuff.

Smith worked to organise the first ever Congress of Vexillology: "a week of discussion of flags in both formal and informal settings".

He also founded North American Vexillological Association, and helped to set up the International Federation of Vexillological Associations.

You're never going to love flags as much as Whitney Smith did, the first step is to take the quiz below and see how many flags you can identify.
