Activision in view to make a killing as 007 Legends is announced

007 Legends set to let gamers relive Bond's 'most iconic and intense undercover missions' ahead of James Bond's 50th anniversary.

Ahead of the 50th anniversary of the James Bond franchise Activision will launch gamers back through time to relive a selection of Bond’s most iconic and intense undercover missions from the Bond films the publisher has announced.

007 Legends features an original, overarching storyline tying together six classic Bond movies, concluding with this year’s 23rd instalment, Skyfall. As you’d expect, we’re promised 007′s regulation armoury of cutting-edge gadgets and deadly weapons – including Bond’s signature Walther PPK – and obligatory selection of sleek cars.

“To honour 50 years of the world’s top secret agent, 007 Legends offers a collection of his most famed moments in the smartest and most treacherous Bond game yet,” said David Oxford, Executive Vice President at Activision. “Creating a video game storyline that ties together six popular, yet very different, Bond movie narratives can be challenging, but together with EON Productions, our developer Eurocom, has pulled it off to create a homage that we think will be a unique and highly entertaining Bond video game.”

In addition to 007 Legends’ main story, the game will feature the return of single-player Mi6 Ops Missions, which debuted in GoldenEye 007: Reloaded, and challenges players to complete extra missions ranging from all-out action to stealth and gadget-based gameplay. Beyond Mi6 Ops Activision also confirming local four-player split-screen game modes and the inclusion of online multiplayer.

Beyond the mention of Skyfall the inspiration for the game’s other potential environments has yet to be confirmed, the publisher simply promising ‘exotic locations which utilise Bond’s quick wits, class and style’ – that’ll be him chatting up the unavoidable Bond Girls across the world’s hottest nightspots then…

Ultimately we’re just hoping that Eurocom put more of a Bond-esque slant on proceedings than they managed in GoldenEye 007: Reloaded which played more like “Call of Duty: 007 Edition” than it did an experience deserving of our shaken, not stirred, hero.

It seems we won’t be waiting too long to find out with PS3 and Xbox 360 versions set to release in Q3 2012.
