Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is set to add expansive new features to the game, giving up some of the tightly-choreographed nature of previous games and giving players much more choice than before.

The game will feature a four-player co-op mode, new choices about how players make their way through the campaign mode and allowing people to choose what their characters look like.

In the trailer, released over the weekend, the game appears to have much the same futuristic and technological look as the previous Black Ops instalment. The video features a soundtrack that asks philosophical questions about what happens when soldiers are given bio-augmentations and improvements so that they “become the weapon”, and what that means for allegiances and loyalty.

Those improvements are set to be a key part of how players make their way through the game, which will have the option to make those improvements to players as well as choosing what they look like. A new XP system will give rewards to players that can then be used to improve soldiers and weapons.

The game adds new specialist characters, which will be able to be used as specific classes for online matches. They will each have specific skills and tools that will allow them to be used in the various contexts of the online game.

The game will be available for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The PC version is said to be a priority for developers.

More detail on the game is set to be revealed at June’s E3 events, where a playable demo is expected to be available.
