Cyberpunk 2077 launch trailer

Cyberpunk 2077 has smashed the record for most concurrent players on a just-launched single-player game on the popular games platform Steam.

The highly anticipated sci-fi RPG reached over 1 million concurrent Steam players, as well as attracting 1 million live viewers on Twitch, after launching at midnight today (10 December).

Previously, the single-player game to hold the record for most concurrent players on launch day was Fallout 4.

Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic RPG had managed to amass 472,000 concurrent players, less than half of the figure reached by Cyberpunk.

Cyberpunk also ranks fourth in the all-time peak list, behind PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2.

It has also been announced that the game received over 8 million pre-orders before launch.

Cyberpunk 2077’s release has been blighted by reports of glitches and bugs, especially prevalent in the “base” last-generation console versions, on PS4 and Xbox One.

The long-awaited sci-fi RPG, developed by Polish studio CD Projekt Red, faced delays and periods of crunch as it worked to get the game ready for launch.

Cyberpunk features a large open-world environment known as Night City (CD Projekt Red)

Earlier this week, it was reported that several sequences in the game could potentially trigger seizures in players with photosensitive epilepsy, a revelation which drew criticism from epilepsy charities.

CD Projekt Red have said that they are working to introduce a separate warning splash screen in the game, in addition to the existing warning in their Licence Agreement.

The company is also working on a “more permanent solution” which developers are looking to deploy as soon as possible.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available to play now on PS4, Xbox One, Google Stadia and PC.
