Fortnite update delayed as Epic Games finds 'issue' that could stop game working properly

Version 4.2 of the game will not come out as schedule – and it is not clear when it will actually be released

The new update to Fortnite has an "issue" and won't be released, its developers have said.

The game might not work properly until the update comes out. And it is not clear when that will be.

Developers Epic Games had heavily touted this week's patch, which will be version 4.2, announcing that there would be downtime this morning.

But soon before that downtime was set to begin, the team behind the game said that the update would not be coming out. It also said that, by failing to release the updates, there could be problems in the current version of the game.

"We’ve discovered an issue that’s going to delay the release of v4.2," Epic Games wrote on Twitter. "Due to this delay some quests may not function until the build releases.

"We’ll update you once we have a more accurate time frame."

The announcement was hit by hundreds of replies on Twitter. Many asked if they could have a refund – the game is free, but it encourages people to regularly pay money for upgrades – though it is unlikely any such thing will actually be issued.

Epic did not give any details on the bug, or when it might be fixed. It also gave no details on what quests might run into problems or how likely it is that players will encounter them.
