After playing a Tony Hawk game for the first time 10 years ago, I remember feeling as if I had somehow become a skilled skater, able to pull off audacious big air tricks. I hadn’t – it was just that the title felt so convincing. A decade on, and the Hawk franchise – and the man himself – is more than a little long in the tooth, so developers have wheeled in a peripheral to pimp things up. While the board controller for TonyHawk Ride makes for briefly diverting play, it feels more like a gimmick than a genuine innovation.
