Rockstar have announced that the much anticipated Grand Theft Auto V will launch on 17 September 2013, so missing the Spring release window that the developer had earlier promised.

‘We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time,’ says the official statement. ‘GTA V is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require.’

‘To all Grand Theft Auto fans, please accept our apologies for the delay, and our promise that the entire team here is working very hard to make the game all it can be,’ it continues. ‘We are doing all we can to help ensure it will meet if not exceed your expectations come September – we thank you for your support and patience.’

It would seem Xbox 360 and PS3 owners had better strap themselves in and prepare for a longer wait than they might have originally anticipated. And still no mention of an accompanying PC version either; although Rockstar do have a history of following up their console releases with a PC version a few months afterwards.
