Players are unable to use Grand Theft Auto 5's online features because its servers are completely down.

The services that run the game's central online modes have been taken down for maintenance, according to GTA developer Rockstar.

The company posted an update on its Twitter telling players that the game would be down for five hours, and to keep watch on its status page. But that page itself appears now to have broken, leaving people unable to check when it will be coming back online.

The outage started early this morning, UK time, and so the game is expected to be back online by lunchtime or earlier. But the developers only said that it would be down for "approximately" five hours, meaning that the outage could last much longer or be resolved more quickly.

It isn't clear what's happening during the maintanence, and whether the game will feature any notable new features or bug fixes when it comes back online. Though the outage is rare for Grand Theft Auto, its servers are often unstable, and so the long maintanence may bring a more reliable service once it is back online.
