The head of an organisation representing the UK videogames industry has won a top personal award for his leadership.

Dr Richard Wilson, CEO of TIGA, won the individual award for leadership on a night in which the group also picked up the title of Trade Association of the Year for the second year running.

In total, the group won four awards at the 2011 Trade Association Forum Best Practice Awards.TIGA had led the pack, having been shortlisted for the categories of best annual report, commercial initiative, marketing campaign, membership pack, membership success, publication and sector representation, winning the first two.

The winners of each category were announced at the Plaisterers’ Hall in London last night.

Dr Wilson is a former Conservative Party researcher. He was previously Director of Communications at the Royal Academy of Engineering and Head of Business Policy at the Institute of Directors. He became CEO of TIGA in 2008, growing the group from 60 to 170 members since.

TIGA actively lobbies the government for games industry tax breaks to help the UK compete against other countries such as Canada which offer those kinds of incentives to companies in the sector.

Dr Wilson said: "I am absolutely thrilled TIGA has won the top award for the second time. It's amazing and testament to the hard work of the team."
