The director of the hit PS4 game God of War has thrown his support behind a video game adaptation of The Mandalorian.

The Star Wars spin-off is currently mid-way through its second season on Disney+, with new episodes arriving every Friday.

The Mandalorian follows the story of Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), a rogue bounty hunter who travels the galaxy with his ward, a small child of Yoda’s species, known as Grogu (or, to many Mandalorian fans, “Baby Yoda”).

Cory Balrog, who directed 2018’s Game of the Year winner God of War, wrote on Twitter: “If someone isn’t working on a great single player Mandalorian game where you play a bounty hunter flying your ship from system to system picking up bounties, upgrading your Beskar armor and getting into adventures then I really don’t know what the hell we are doing here.”

“And by great single player I mean a strong focus on character development with relatable human triumphs, losses + seemingly impossible decisions to wrestle with. Not just shooting, but surviving - both physically and emotionally. though I would hope the shooting would be fun.”

Electronic Arts currently own the rights to adapt Star Wars in video games, and were responsible for 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and this year’s Star Wars: Squadrons, both of which were well received by fans and critics alike.

While EA have not announced plans for a Mandalorian video game spin-off, the franchise has adapted a similar idea before, back in 2002.

Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, released on the Nintendo GameCube and PlayStation 2, let players control bounty hunter Jango Fett in a story set before Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones.
