No Man's Sky release date confirmed as creators tweet image of finished game

Fans will be relieved to know that the game has gone gold

After four years in development the highly anticipated space exploration game No Man’s Sky is finally done.

Developed by Hello Games, the title has faced a legal dispute with Sky over its name and a postponed launch date, raising the ire of fans who even went so far as to send the team death threats in response to the news.

These difficulties make it even more significant then, that after teasing that news was imminent, the development studio’s founder, Sean Murray, has been able to share a picture on Twitter of he and his team celebrating with the finished version of the game.

After being announced in 2013, hype has been rapidly building around No Man’s Sky, largely thanks to its reported scale and ambition. In the game players will take control of their very own spaceship and have complete freedom to fly around a vast procedurally generated universe.

As they fly, players will be able to discover new planets, uncover new species, gather raw materials and upgrade their spaceship. All of this and they’ll also be able to get into fights with malicious space pirates. With so much content it’s remarkable the game hasn’t been delayed more.

Fans can now breathe a sigh of relief with this news, as it appears that No Man’s Sky will indeed be released as promised on PlayStation 4 and PC on August 9th in the US, August 10th in Europe, and August 12th in the UK. There’s still no update on that rumoured virtual reality compatibility, though.
