The Last of Us 2 trailer: Sony officially announce sequel to critically acclaimed Naughty Dog game
Coming to PlayStation 4 in the distant future
Despite the Xbox 360 outselling thePlayStationn 3, many gamers were convinced late into the console’s lifespan to purchase Sony’s machine for one very good reason: The Last of Us.
Following two unlikely companions - Ellie and Joel - in a post-apocalyptic world, players were led through an emotional story, filled with twists and turns, and given a bittersweet ending.
Despite the game’s popularity, Naughty Dog remained tight-lipped over a possible sequel: only Uncharted writer Josh Scherr spoke about a possible sequel, and that was by accident.
At Sony’s Playstation Experience, however, that all changed as Part II was finally officially confirmed to be happening with both Ellie and Joel.
While the game won’t likely be released until late 2018 (and that’s being optimistic) creative director Neil Druckmann has spoken about who player’s will control in game.
“Joel was the star in the first, Ellie is the star in this one,” Druckmann told an audience when speaking about the game. “Ellie plays differently from Joel.”
Other games announced at the Playstation Experience include Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, a remaster/remake of the first Crash Bandicoot games, and Ni No Kuni 2.
