Freemasons raise £1m in eight months for Air Ambulance

The £6 million campaign for a second emergency helicopter for the capital received a £750,000 boost yesterday from London Freemasons.

The organisation, which has 40,000 members in 1,350 lodges in London, handed over the cheque to London’s Air Ambulance as part of a pledge to raise £2 million for the project.

It takes the amount raised so far by the London Freemasons in just eight months to a £1,000,000. The money will not only help pay for the new helicopter but help keep it in the air for five years.

A second helicopter will facilitate extended flying hours and enable medics to reach 400 extra patients a year. London’s Air Ambulance responds to major trauma emergencies such as stabbings, shootings, road collisions and falls.

Mark Davies, Director of Development at London’s Air Ambulance said: “The support of London Freemasons has been instrumental in allowing us to acquire a second helicopter. We are extremely grateful for their phenomenal support in helping us save more lives in London.”

The cheque was presented before a packed gathering of Freemasons, their wives, partners and families by the new Metropolitan Grand Master, Sir Michael Snyder.
