This year will be remembered as one of uncertainty and fear, when our world was upturned and countless thousands lost their lives. But 2020 will also be remembered for incredible acts of selflessness, kindness and care in response to the pandemic. That’s why this year The Independent’s Happy List, our annual celebration of those who make our country a better place, is specifically honouring the great British “Heroes In A Crisis” who have done amazing things since the outbreak of virus.

All across the UK, people have been looking within their communities to support those in need, volunteering their time to inspire others, or finding innovative ways to raise a smile. Now is your chance to celebrate these remarkable people by nominating them for The Independent‘s Happy List 2020: Heroes In A Crisis.

Everybody knows someone doing incredible things during these difficult days, and we need you to tell us about them. It only takes a minute to nominate someone using this form, and by doing so you will help shine a light on their fantastic contribution. They might be a neighbour who goes out of their way to keep someone else going; a tireless food bank volunteer; an unsung saviour of animals, or the brains behind an innovation that makes lockdown that little bit more bearable. Whoever they are, and wherever they live in Britain, we want to hear about them. Nominations close at midnight on Sunday 14 June 2020, and the list will be published later in the summer.

The Happy List was set up in 2008 by The Independent as an annual antidote to greed-driven celebrity rich lists. Rather than honour privilege and wealth, the Happy List seeks to celebrate people whose efforts are for no personal gain, and who often go unrecognised outside their own communities.

The Happy List is once again in partnership with GoFundMe, the largest online fundraising platform, and this year it feels more vital than ever. Moments of rupture can be an engine for change, and there are so many people who have seized this one as an opportunity to create a more caring, connected world. Despite social distancing and isolation, our collective wellbeing has arguably never been more linked – and that really is something to be thankful for and to celebrate.
