Facebook, ITV and Wallace & Gromit animation firm Aardman are among the 100 creative businesses in the private sector that have come together to offer 300 apprentice-style roles for school leavers, writes Gideon Spanier.
Young people aged 16 to 24 are being encouraged to apply for jobs or and paid internships in a variety of media industries from TV and film to advertising, social media and web design in an initiative organised by the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising. There have been complaints in the past that young people from affluent backgrounds have a big advantage in creative industries because employees are often expected to work for little or nothing at the start of their careers.
