QPR the big spenders on £4m Cissé

QPR completed the £4m signing of the former Liverpool striker Djibril Cissé yesterday but were last night still waiting to agree personal terms with Fulham's £5m striker Bobby Zamora as the January transfer window looked to be closing with a whimper.

Cissé, the 30-year-old Lazio striker, has returned to England for £4.2m. QPR confirmed he has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal at Loftus Road and has been registered in time to make his QPR debut at Aston Villa tonight, subject to international clearance.

Zamora was said to be undergoing a medical at QPR last night but had not yet agreed personal terms.

The Cottagers did put pen to paper last night with the Stuttgart frontman Pavel Pogrebnyak. The Russian international, 28 will have a medical with the Cottagers today ahead of a move.

The QPR manager, Mark Hughes, said he was delighted to snap up French striker Cissé.

Hughes told the club's official website: "I rate Djibril very, very highly. I've watched him for many years and always been impressed by what he brings to the table.

"He's a huge threat to opposition defences. He's got great pace, power and movement and that's something we will, hopefully, benefit from. He's scored goals wherever he's played. He was desperate to come here and we can't wait to get the best out of him."

Cissé only joined Lazio in the summer after a successful spell in Greece with Panathinaikos. The Arles-born striker struggled for form in Italy, although he believes he can make an impact in west London. "QPR have a hugely ambitious project," said Cissé.

"When I talked to the manager, he spoke highly of the club and where he wants to take it over the next few years. He wanted to sign me at Manchester City and now I am finally here with him at QPR. I'm really happy to be here and I can't wait to repay the club's confidence in me, to get back to where I want to be as a player. I can't wait to start playing games."

Elsewhere, Ravel Morrison, the prodigious but wayward Manchester United 18-year-old, ended his contract dispute by signing a three-and-a-half-year deal at West Ham. "The move has happened very quickly and I'm looking forward to hopefully moving up to the Premier League with West Ham soon," Morrison said. "I'm an attacking player and I'm hoping to get the fans on their feet."

Spurs' Roman Pavlyuchenko was in talks for a move to Lokomotiv Moscow.
