Ali takes 10 in drive for promotion

Kabir Ali took 10 wickets in the match as Worcestershire wrapped up a 304-run win over Gloucestershire within three days at Bristol.

After taking five for 32 in Gloucestershire's first innings yesterday, Ali posted figures of 5 for 34 as the home side's batting crumbled for the second time in the match.

The win was Worcestershire's second Frizzell County Championship Second Division success of the season, and the emphatic manner of their success suggests they will be a force in the promotion shake-up come the end of the summer.

The Yorkshire captain, Darren Lehmann, took his cue from Michael Bevan to hit a defiant hundred and give his team a fighting chance against Leicestershire at Grace Road.

Lehmann saw his fellow Australian – and former Yorkshire batsman – Bevan hit 142 for Leicestershire yesterday, then produced an innings at least equal in quality. His unbeaten 119 managed, despite a five-wicket haul from Phil DeFreitas, to carry Yorkshire to a second-innings 239 all out and give them the opportunity to defend a lead of 203.

In 15 overs of batting Leicestershire then knocked off 33 for the loss of Trevor Ward.
