April 10-11 agenda: Henri Cartier-Bresson retrospective

This weekend's highlights comprise an important retrospective of French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson in New York, the opening of the traveling Harry Potter exhibit in Toronto, the African Film Awards, among other events.

Harry Potter, the exhibition

This event exhibition first presented in Chicago gives fans of all ages a front row seat to artifacts and scenic elements from the Harry Potter films. Visitors can get a first-hand look at props and costumes, like Harry's original wand and eyeglasses, or the Gryffindor school uniforms. The exhibition already visited Chicago and Boston, Toronto is the only Canadian venue and it will continue its trip worldwide, locations to be announced.

Africa Film Awards

April 10

The equivalent of the Oscars for African cinema on a much smaller scale, the Africa Movie Academy Awards will be held on April 10 in Nigeria and will be televised across the world. Feature, short, and documentary films from Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Tanzania, Namibia, Sierra Leone among other countries will compete at the 6th edition of this awards ceremony. The AMAA awards is not the biggest film event on the African continent; Panafrican Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (or FESPACO) in Burkina Faso is the largest African film festival. It is held biennially in the Burkina Faso capital, the next edition will take place between February 26 and March 5, 2011.

Game Design Expo

Hosted by the Vancouver Film School, the Games Design Expo is intended to act as both conference and mixer for students and professionals alike with talks from industry insiders. Executives from Twentieth Century Fox Television, Sony, MySpace, Adobe, CNET.com, Lionsgate, Dreamworks Animation, HP, IBM, CSI, Dell, Inc., and CBS will provide keynotes on subjects pertinent to the audio video and film industries.

Henri Cartier-Bresson retrospective

New York's MoMA presents the first major Henri-Cartier Bresson retrospective in 30 years. Henri Cartier-Bresson: The Modern Century covers 60 years of the French photographer's career, showing 300 prints from 1929 to 1989, many of which have never been shown to the public before.
