Minneapolis mayor asks witnesses for help in protest investigation

The Minneapolis police department has launched an investigation to find out how a 10-year-old was maced on Wednesday night during a protest for Tony Robinson, a black man killed by Wisconsin police.

Protesters are claiming that Taye Montgomery, a 10-year-old boy, was pepper sprayed by police. Minneapolis Police Chief Janee Harteau issued a statement saying that the situation would be investigated.

“I understand and appreciate people's concerns and will gather the full set of facts as quickly as possible. I assure everyone this will be a thorough investigation,” she said.

Susan Montgomery, Taye’s mother, told the Minneapolis Star Tribune that her fourth-grade son has participated in protests before.

“I’m not going to take back anything we did. I didn’t do anything wrong, and he didn’t do anything wrong,” she said.

Protesters have organised a Thursday night march in Taye and Mr Robinson’s honour.
