Royal baby front pages - from Private Eye to 'The Son'

The front pages of every national newspaper on Tuesday led with the news that the Duchess of Cambridge had given birth to the royal baby.

Kate gave birth to a son at 4.24pm on Monday, weighing 8lb 6 oz. He will be the third in line to ascend to the throne.

Coverage of the event was on the whole rather jubilant, with The Sun newspaper going so far as to temporarily change the name of their publication to The Son.

The Daily Mail was one of the only papers to feature the Prince of Wales as their main cover image, instead of Kate or the easel bearing the royal announcement.

Most papers chose to use full page images with a headline bearing the news. The Times printed a special souvenir edition to commemorate the birth, featuring a full page wrap picture of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge accompanied by the slogan 'welcome to the world'.

Private Eye took an ironic approach to the news that gripped the nation yesterday, with a front page that simply said: "woman has baby".

The Independent's front page featured a picture of the announcement at Buckingham Palace.
