The Duke of York attends a centenary dinner given by the Marine Highland Hotel, Troon, Ayrshire. The Princess Royal opens Shin-Etsu Europe Limited's new plant at Livingston, West Lothian; visits Bartholomew House, Edinburgh; as Patron, Scottish Business Achievement Award Trust, attends an annual lunch at Prestonfield House Hotel, Edinburgh; and, as Patron, Citizens Advice Scotland, visits Gorgie/Dalry Citizens Advice Bureau, Fountainbridge Library, Edinburgh. Princess Margaret attends the final performance by the Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London WC2, before its closure for redevelopment. The Duke of Gloucester, Trustee, British Museum, opens the Arts of Korea Exhibition and afterwards attends a dinner at the museum, London WC1; as Patron, Cheltenham International Festival of Music, attends a concert at Pitville Pump Room, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire; opens St Paul's Wing (Maternity Unit) at Cheltenham General Hospital; and opens the Gloucester Charities Trust's Day Care Centre, Cirencester, Gloucestershire. The Duke of Kent, Chancellor, Surrey University, opens the Sir Austin Pearce Building, Guildford, Surrey, views an exhibition by the Engineering Employers Federation, and meets students at the Year of Engineering Success Year in Industry Competition. Princess Alexandra opens the new Science Department and Music Centre of Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Faversham, Kent; and visits the Kent County Show at the County Showground, Detling, Kent.
Changing of the Guard
The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment mounts the Queen's Life Guard at Horse Guards, 11am; 1st Battalion Royal Gurkha Rifles mounts the Queen's Guard, at Buckingham Palace, 11.30am, band provided by the Coldstream Guards.
