Veteran Villarreal midfielder Marcos Senna could miss this weekend's crunch clash with Barcelona after picking up a hamstring problem during training.
The 34-year-old has endured a succession of injury problems this season and was substituted at half-time during the recent 2-0 victory over Atletico Madrid at El Madrigal.
It is anticipated that coach Juan Carlos Garrido will bring in Bruno Soriano to replace Senna if the former Spain international fails to recover from the injury in time.
Going into this weekend's games, the Yellow Submarine are third in La Liga after ten matches, two points adrift of second-placed Barca and three behind current leaders Real Madrid.
Both Barcelona and Villarreal have only been beaten once so far this term.
