Wines of the Week: 2001 Reynolds Little Boomey Chardonnay; 1998 Para Hills Clare Valley Cabernet Malbec
White
2001 Reynolds Little Boomey Chardonnay, Orange, £4.99, Sainsbury's
Inland from Sydney, the cool wine region of Orange is gaining a reputation for naturally refreshing wines with good intensity of flavour, like this well-balanced chardonnay from Reynolds, with its melon-like, dry fruitiness enhanced by a light touch of oak and grapefruit-zesty acidity. Try it with a Delia-style steamed trout with ginger.
Red
1998 Para Hills Clare Valley Cabernet Malbec, £10, Marks & Spencer
This ink-dark, impressive blend of cabernet sauvignon and malbec, the hallmark of Leasingham Wines, is powerfully aromatic, with a touch of mint underlying the spice and cassis fruitiness. It's a typically bold, but not overpowering Clare Valley red, and good for spring lamb with rosemary.
