White Wine
2001 Sierra Los Andes Gewürztraminer, £5.50, Marks & Spencer
The headily scented gewürztraminer grape of Alsace is starting to make an impression in the southern hemisphere, not least at Viña Carmen in Chile, where Juan Carlos Faundez has captured the pot-pourri aromas of the grape and combined it with an irresistibly seductive Turkish Delight fruitiness. Makes a great apéritif.
Red Wine
2000 Clos Saint Michel Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Guy Mousset, £9.99, Waitrose
When it's time to dust down the thermals, there are few better options than a heart, mind and body-warming Châteauneuf-du-Pape from southern Rhône, a red whose vivid blackberry succulence and generous alcohol will take the edge off anyone's winter.
