White

2001 Yalumba Oxford Landing Limited Release Viognier, £6.99, Safeway, Waitrose, Morrisons, EH Booth, virginwines.com

Yalumba is making waves with this popular Rhône white variety in Australia, producing here a perfumed, dry white, exotically shot through with stonefruit flavours and enough body and limey freshness to stand up to a Thai green curry, made with either chicken or pork.

Red

2000 Sainsbury's Reserve Selection Pinotage, £3.99, on special offer until Tuesday (normally £5.49)

From Beyerskloof in the Cape, South Africa, this vivid, exuberantly fruity young pinotage is so full of ripe berries and rustic bite that, although it is still a bit young to drink, it is too good to pass up at the current special discount price. A robust red that would be ideal for drinking with either grilled sausage or a game dish.
