Fire tears through popular clothing market during busy Eid sales in Bangladesh capital
Eight were injured in fire that raged for six hours
A huge fire ripped through a clothing market in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, injuring several firefighters and gutting thousands of businesses ahead of Islam’s largest festival Eid-al Fitr later this month.
The blaze broke out at the Bangabazar Market, a packed complex with 3,000 shops in Dhaka, at dawn on Tuesday and quickly spread.
Around 50 fire units with some 600 personnel were working to douse the flames for the past six hours as it continued to spread through the cramped market. At least eight people, including two members of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, were injured as they worked to control the blaze, reported the Dhaka Tribune.
