Charles Wardle, Home Office Minister for Immigration, agreed at a meeting with London clergy yesterday, to review the cases of two Zairean refugees seeking

political asylum. He also agreed to a judicial review of the case of Kalunga Lemba, 29, awaiting deportation in Pentonville prison.

Mr Wardle, has written to Independent London in response to a quote in an article on 27 June by Clive Furness, a barrister campaigning for Mr Lemba,

alleging that the Home Office accepts that Mr Lemba was tortured for political

activities in Zaire. Mr Wardle states: 'Your readers can be sure that we accept no such thing.'
