RELAUNCH PARTY

@hanover grand

The Hanover re-opens its doors this Friday after the completion of its internal face-lift. This is one venue that, to my mind at least, always appeared quite swanky, so it will be interesting to view the improvements.

A new, modular stage and lighting rig have been installed, in addition to a much-needed new DJ booth (over-zealous dancers used to jog the Technics every half an hour) and toilet facilities.

Seb Fontaine, Brian Norman and Craig Richards feature on the decks, so patrons will hear bangin' house upstairs and phat rhythms PRETZEL LOGIC

downstairs in the basement.

6 Hanover St, W1 (0171-499 7977) Friday 10pm-4am pounds 10

An innovative mix of jazztastic disco, soul, housey rhythms and occasional live performances await you under the guidance of resident THE SAINT BAR

DJ Toni Rossano. Cheap drinks, no dress code and no entry tax make this gig one to check out.

Wednesday, 242 Coldharbour Lane, Brixton SW9, (0171-738 4000) Wednesday 7pm-1am, entry free

If you're not wearing your best frock, don't even bother queuing up. There's no entry tax here, but you'll still have problems getting in if you arrive after 10pm.

At weekends, The Saint plays host to the bright, bold and beautiful - Soho trendies, models, soap stars and a host of wannabes.

Downstairs, the food in the restaurant is great (and pricey), but people flock here for the social vibe. The music gets cranked up and the tables pushed back when the champagne starts to take effect. Expect housey beats and old- skool classics. Meanwhile, the dormant exhibitionist inside you will MALIBU STACEY

love every minute and the party atmosphere is excellent. If you're famous, arrive as late as you like and make a grand entrance. Mere mortals are advised to arrive early and test your luck.

8 Great Newport St, WC2 (0171-240 1551) entry free

The original glam night out seems to have been around for ages now, but is about to be replaced on Saturday nights at Hanover. The new gig, Spacey, is from the same promotion team, but if you haven't been to Malibu you should check it out before it's too late.

The dress code here is simple and ruthless. You have to impress in the clothes department or you'll find yourself at home in time to catch the end of Match of the Day. The tunes here aren't too ingenious but the DJs keep the bpm high with banging anthems and house.
