Christmas Gifts: Toy story

As the father of eight children, Tim Waterstone understands the difficulties parents face when shopping for and with their children - especially at Christmas. With this in mind, Waterstone has devised an all-encompassing children's department store that provides a full range of toys as well as clothes, books, and even a hairdresser. Based on The Adventures of Daisy and Tom, written by Waterstone's wife, Rosie Alison, the whole store runs to this theme. Costumed characters, a carousel and a puppet show keeps children amused, while a soda bar stocked with knickerbocker glories and snacks offers a welcome respite for weary feet. Don't miss the adorable little fairy outfits with matching slippers, an asset to any dressing-up box, (pounds 29.95) the leather daisy purses (pounds 2.95), a life- size, fleecy rocking sheep (pounds 99.99) and, most importantly, Father Christmas, who will be telling stories in the book department in the week before Christmas.

Daisy and Tom, 118 Deansgate, Manchester M3 (0161 835 5000); 181 King's Road, London SW3 (0171-352 5000)
