Coronavirus: Joe Wicks fractures hand but says virtual PE classes will continue

Fitness entrepreneur’s daily workouts have garnered millions of views around the world

Joe Wicks has assured fans his online PE classes will continue despite the fact that he has recently fractured his wrist.

The fitness entrepreneur, who is also known as The Body Coach, has inspired millions of children and families around the world to exercise in their living rooms while on lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Wicks held his first virtual PE class on Monday following the closure of schools in the UK to ensure children are still keeping fit from home.

Viewers can take part in the 30-minute sessions on YouTube.

But on The Andrew Marr Show on Sunday, Wicks appeared with a cast on his arm, prompting Marr to ask whether he had injured himself during the workouts.

“For those thinking, ‘What’s he done to his arm?’, it wasn’t during a workout,” Wicks clarified.

“I fell off my bike last week and fractured a little bone in my hand.”

Nonetheless, the 33-year-old said the injury has not stopped him from exercising regularly, nor will it affect the frequency of his online PE classes.

“It hasn’t stopped me,” he said.

“I’ve been doing one-armed burpees, I’ve been doing squats, lunges, all sorts.”

Wicks said he is “really proud” of all of the people who have been taking part in his workouts.

The fitness entrepreneur has vowed to donate all of the money raised from his workouts to the NHS to help medical workers amid the coronavirus outbreak, explaining on Instagram how they are “the real heroes”.

“As a result of so many people viewing the #PEWithJoe workouts on YouTube the advertising revenue generated has been unlike anything I’ve seen or experienced on my channel before,” he began.

“So I’ve decided that as long as I’m the nation’s PE teacher, every single penny of the money generated on these videos is going to the place where we need it the most right now.

All of it is going straight to the NHS, to support the real heroes right now.”
