Public 'Clap for Carers' to show support for NHS workers

Hundreds of posters expressing appreciation for NHS staff have been sent to hospitals across the country amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The “Notes To Strangers” campaign is a well-known public art project that involves pasting motivational and colourful messages for strangers in public areas.

As the Covid-19 outbreak continued to impact the world, the campaign has been switched to focus on healthcare workers in hospitals instead.

The new initiative, which is called “Notes To NHS Staff”, involves uplifting posters being displayed in break rooms, kitchens, corridors and offices of NHS workers.

1,300 posters have since been shared across the country, and NHS staff have been sharing the heartfelt notes on social media.

The posters bear captions including: “You matter so, so much”, “Strength for our weakest moments” and “Try not to ever be hard on yourself for being human.”

Another poster shared by an NHS worker on Instagram, which was placed on a wall at Guy’s Hospital in Southwark, London, reads: “Just so you know you’re loved by millions of strangers.”

“Cheering me up on a Saturday in work,” the healthcare worker who shared the image wrote on Instagram.

Last week, people across the country broke out into applause for the NHS as part of the “Clap For Our Carers” campaign.

The national “Clap for our Carers” event was coordinated to show appreciation for healthcare workers who are risking their lives while treating patients who are infected with Covid-19.

Similar events have been held in Europe, with citizens on lockdown in France and Italy standing on their balconies to applauding medical staff.

Organisers asked people to clap either on their doorsteps or through open windows at 8pm to thank NHS staff, including doctors, nurses, GPs, pharmacists and emergency workers.
