Nuisance caused by car alarms being triggered by hot weather has prompted Ealing council to introduce tough measures under the 1993 Noise and Statutory Nuisance Act, allowing officers to break into offending vehicles, silence the alarms and tow the cars away.
Police say many people forget to close windows and air vents, resulting in draughts which set off the alarms.
The Association of London Authorities said Ealing was the first borough to introduce such measures.
