Dax Shepard says he broke several bones in motorcycle accident

Dax Shepard has revealed he needs to undergo surgery after suffering multiple broken bones in a motorcycle accident.

On Monday, the 45-year-old discussed the crash and his resulting injuries, which included broken ribs and a broken clavicle, on his podcast Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard.

According to the actor, the crash occurred while he was driving his motorcycle in Sonoma, California, on Sunday.

“I was passing six guys at Sonoma Raceway on a motorcycle and I was braking very, very hard - hard enough that the back wheel was off the ground for a good hundred yards and then someone turned in, as they have the right to,” he said, adding that he was “totally at blame”.

"I thought I would be able to slide in between, but someone turned in and I was already under full brake and I couldn't go anywhere. I clipped their bumper and then I went over the handlebars and I landed pretty hard," Shepard continued.

During the podcast, the actor explained that the crash was a “little demoralising” because it was the first time that he had “ever been down on the track”.

“And then side note, got thoroughly yelled at by the track crew for not getting off the track soon enough,” the Bless This Mess star continued, explaining that the rules require those who crash to get off the track as quickly as they can so they don’t get hit by another motorcycle.

"They really let me have it and I was too injured to really object, so I just took it on the chin," he said.

Despite the injury, the father-of-two said he got back on the track for two more sessions after icing his shoulder for 90 minutes.

However, according to Shepard, his injuries got "too painful by the end of it” and he went to the emergency room the next day, where he learned he has four broken ribs, his clavicle is broken in three places and requires surgery, and he broke his hand.

The actor’s broken bones come after he injured himself in May while off-roading with a friend.

According to Shepard, the “good news” about his most recent injury was that three carpals that he had previously fractured did not break again.

Shepard also said the injury wouldn’t keep him from riding motorcycles forever, explaining that he “might be willing to quit for the remainder of 2020.”

On Wednesday, the actor shared a photo of his injuries on Instagram, where his wife Kristen Bell can be seen in the background.

“Thank you Armcherries for all the well wishes and concern,” he wrote. “I'm in one piece and spirits are high. Sorry for causing concern.”
