EDUCATION TALKBACK LETTER

From Keith Flett:

Madam: As a former history teacher and now socialist historian and researcher, I read with some surprise Nick Tate's plea for a return to a heroes-and- heroines approach to school history and the need to ditch empathetic approaches. Surprise because it was precisely this battle which the Government fought and largely won when it implemented the existing national curriculum for history. Tate's call for a great-people approach to history is therefore a good deal more extreme than it sounds. He is seeking to turn an already fairly right-wing school history even further to the right.

Yours faithfully,

Keith Flett,

Co-Convenor, London Socialist Historians Group,

London, N17.
