Recycled Nature, an exhibition of new work by artists Diek Grobler and Caroline Kent, is at Jame Colman Fine Art until 31 July. The exhibition comprises a series of paintings which aim to address the human tendency to give an inordinate level of status to so-called `cultural' or consumer objects. Pretoria-based Diek Grobler's oil and gouache on wood panels reveal his fascination with some of today's mystical cultures and their relationship with what's gone before (above). In contrast, Caroline Kent's work focuses on the physical and conceptual history of living. Both artists successfully isolate some of the late 20th-century's more baffling behavioural patterns, while seeking to remind us where they derive from.
