Fashion can be very fickle, with trends coming and going all the time.

However, would you ever consider wearing accessories that have been implanted into your skin?

That’s the question on everyone’s lips after catching sight of the highly realistic, temporary skin accessories being displayed by celebrities including Kim Kardashian, Chrissy Teigen and Tan France.

The body modification implants have been designed by a new fashion brand called A. Human, which aims to challenge how people traditionally think about fashion by placing less emphasis on the clothes that people put on their bodies and more on the bodies themselves.

While some may find the idea of implanted accessories intriguing, others find the notion positively skin-crawling.

Reactions to France’s Instagram post have been quite divisive, with one person describing his neck ruffle as “disgusting” and another proclaiming that he looks like an “alien prince”.

Kim Kardashian shared a video of her A. Human choker necklace on Twitter, which prompted one Twitter user say that it made them feel “nauseous”.

A.Human is set to show its first collection during New York Fashion Week through an interactive exhibition produced by Society of Spectacle, which will be held from September 5 until September 30 at 48 Mercer Street.

Society of Spectacle founder Simon Huck believes that there is currently a “taboo” surrounding the subject of body modification, which is why he wanted to paint it in a more positive light.

“It was important to root this experience in optimism while provoking our guests to think about a potential future of fashion, and by doing so, inviting them to question their definitions of self-expression,” he says.

In addition to the accessories showcased by Kardashian, Teigen and France, the exhibition will also show other artefacts such as the biological heel, a heel implanted in the foot that’s been designed to look like a shell.

Is the A. Human collection a short-term novelty, or is it providing the world with a glimpse into an inevitable Hunger Games-esque future of fashion? Only time will tell.
