Beyonce thanks Coachella fans 'for allowing her to be first black woman to headline' festival

Coachella is almost upon us meaning music fans and A-listers will soon be descending on Palm Springs for the two weekend-long event.

But, while the annual gathering is technically a music and art festival, it also serves as an unofficial runway show for the sartorial savvy.

A great excuse for celebrities to dance in the Californian sunshine in denim shorts, tie-dye T-shirts, flower headbands and bohemian-style dresses, Coachella is just as much about the style as it is the musical performances.

Among the best dressed celebrities over the years are supermodel sisters Gigi and Bella Hadid, the Kardashian-Jenner clan and artists like Rihanna and Cardi B.

Last year, Rihanna took the opportunity to debut a pink and black combat trouser and athletic-inspired body at her Fenty x Puma party during the festival.

Meanwhile, Hailey Baldwin accessorised her Nineties denim jeans and sheer brassiere with cat-eye sunglasses and oversized hoops at a party for denim brand Levi's.

But, while there have been many memorable fashion moments in the history of Coachella, Beyonce’s “Beychella” ensemble in 2018 cemented her as one of the festival’s major style icons.

The Run The World singer changed her looks five times over the course of her two-hour performance, each time gracing the stage in another showstopping custom Balmain get-up, from a sequin bodysuit to a yellow hoodie and denim micro-shorts.
