Update your wardrobe with these bang-on-trend pieces to suit any budget.

Summer is the season of sorbets, and ice cream-colored clothes are all the rage this year. Pastels including mint green, peach, and coral were omnipresent on the runways and are one of the key trends that fast fashion retailers have built their collections on. Try Topshop's Tropicana collection for stripes, polka dots, and florals - all in candy colors. Their orange cardigan will prove a great basic for summer nights.

Denim is back. In a big way. If you're really brave, you can wear double-denim, pairing jeans shirts and skirts, for instance, but there are also less drastic ways to participate in the trend: Uniqlo has flowy maxi skirts in denim that go well with hippie blouses or just simple tank tops, and also offers cute rompers and jeans shorts. Or, go for hip acid-washed denim, for example with H&M's Festival Collection.

The military trend was one of the most dominant themes in fashion editorials this year, and the mall as well as the high street are catching up: Evans has some great safari-inspired pieces that can double for your trooper look, and Zara as well as Topshop sell jackets and shirts to go with the look.

Just like every summer, we will feel like channeling our upbeat mood through girly florals, and while chances are your closet already boasts countless blooming numbers, retailers are releasing new collections, featuring flowers in all shapes, colors, and sizes. Why will it still be new? Because we will combine them differently this year. It's all about mixing and matching this year, pairing patterns in unlikely combinations; try wearing a floral skirt with a polka-dotted top, for instance. Also: chains such as H&M are printing florals onto this season's hippest pieces, such as jumpsuits.

The new dress and skirt length, by the way, is maxi, not mini. Yes, it's going to be hot, but that's fashion. Zara has a few very luxurious-looking, floral ones (that's two trends in one!) as part of its Casual collection that will take you from the beach to the bar.
