The British supermodel goes plastic fantastic for fashion photoshoot
British supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley does an impressive Barbie impression for Vogue Japan, and the resemblance is rather unsettling.
The 27-year-old model is transformed into lifelike Barbie and shows her uncanny resemblance to a plastic doll with stiff hands and legs, glued fingers and knees, carrying an emotionless frozen smile for the kitsch-style shoot. She really looks just like a toy.
Huntington-Whiteley already shares some of Barbie’s iconic features, including the blonde hair, long limbs and slim fit figure. That plus a little help from hair and make-up, teeth whitening and colourful attire gives the whole look such an authentically plastic look that is scary.
She wears Mattel-inspired Moschino spring 2015 collection and other bright designer spring collections, such as Valentino’s zig-zagged rainbow ready-to-wear pieces.
She has the motorbike, the dog, the hairbrush and an extensive wardrobe of clothes and accessories. All in a wide range of pink hues.
And to take you even further into the pink world of Barbie, there’s an appearance of Ken, the plastic man with the pearly-white smile and perfectly-marked six-pack.
Barbie seems to be having a moment, not just at Hamleys, but in the fashion world too. Jeremy Scott's Barbie-themed collection for Moschino triggered the obsession for the pink plastic world and served as inspiration of editorial shoots, with Vogue Paris featuring a line-up of models transformed into real-life and shoot inside their “boxes” and now this.
