The Experts: The best beauty products for Valentine's Day
We may have survived the arduous slog that was January, but don't breathe a sigh of relief yet – Valentine's Day is looming.
If one is to believe the hype, presenting your loved one with something truly banal – a Filofax, say – is completely acceptable, as long as it's pink or red and adorned with love hearts. Unless you have an annual competition for naffest gift, this is seriously misguided territory.
Roses are a safer bet. According to Floriography, the coded language of flowers, red petals mean passion – and in the beauty world there's a plentiful crop of these blooms from which to choose.
Sniffed straight from the bottle, REN's Moroccan Rose Otto Bath Oil (£35, renskincare.com) packs a pungent punch, but when poured into a bath, disperses into something far more delicate. Candles are innately romantic, and Diptyque make some of the best – this double scented, limited-edition Rose Duet (£42, diptyqueparis.co.uk) combines freshly-cut roses with blackcurrant leaves.
Finally, what could be more fitting than something dubbed Love Balm? Jurlique's Turkish Delight-scented salve (£10, jurlique.co.uk) can be used to soften elbows, hands and, most crucially, lips.
