With the fashion week season coming to an end in the most important fashion capitals (New York, London, Milan, Paris), October belongs to the 'underdogs' and new markets. The Middle East is gaining importance for Western brands, hosting a broad range of international events this month, and Tokyo and Moscow are gearing up for their fashion weeks. And Jil Sander finally comes to Uniqlo!

Jil Sander for Uniqlo

German designer Jil Sander has created an affordable range for the Japanese high street favorite Uniqlo, making its debut October 1 in France, the UK and the US and October 2 in Asia. According to the label, clothes will be priced from $19.50 to $149.50.

Givenchy Redux

The French fashion label notorious for its sky-high prices will release a less expensive clothes range this month. Items, designed by the fashion house's head designer Ricardo Tisci, will comprise a selection of the label's "greatest hits" (including shoes) starting at $350.

Coco Cocoon by Chanel

The new handbags, promoted by British singer Lily Allen in the label's Breakfast at Tiffany's-inspired ads, go on sale for around €750 each on October 3.

ASVOFF winner announced

October 8

The organizers of A Shaded View on Fashion Film, a short movie festival hosted by fashion writer Diane Pernet, will name the winner of this year's competition at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. Candidates include commercials for luxe brands as well as independent, more 'artsy' films. Guest of honor is the American fashion designer Rick Owens.

Who's Next & Premiere Classe Dubai

October 11-13

A trade event that has its origins in Paris, the fashion fair will host its Dubai version for the first time this fall, aiming at introducing new brands to the Middle Eastern market and opening the dialogue between the two design hemispheres. Presenting over 250 designers, Who's Next in Dubai will feature brands such as Repetto, Robert Clergerie or Carlos Santos.

Russian Fashion Week

October 17-23

The most important fashion event in Eastern Europe, especially in terms of buying power, is hosting shows by Zandra Rhodes, Jenny Packham, Catherine Malandrino, and Francesco Smalto this season.

Toronto Fashion Week

October 19-24

Having announced a location move to the city's King West area in order to make space for more exhibiting brands, Toronto Fashion Week -- known for a more commercial, laid-back approach to fashion -- will host Barbie and department sotre Holt Renfrew events this season as well as a screening of Vogue documentary, The September Issue.

Japan Fashion Week

October 19-25

It is only the ninth edition of Japanese fashion week, but already, the event enjoys the acclaim of the international community. This season, there will be a collective of Danish designers exhibiting (among them Peter Jensen and Noir/Bllack Noir) as well as the most successful labels of the country such as House of the very Island.

Belgrade Fashion Week

October 22-29

The Eastern European fashion week ranks right behind its Moscow counterpart and has silently but steadily made a name for itself, previously attracting internationally reputed brands such as Adidas, Diesel, Costume National, Mango, and even Hugo Boss. This season's schedule is yet to be announced.

Dubai Fashion Week

October 24-29

Taking place at its new venue, the InterContinental hotel, organizers say this season's event will be bigger and better than the last one in April, with the region's most popular designers such as Walid Atallah, Reem Ali Beljafla, Aly Fawaz or Salma Khan returning in addition to a number of first-timers. In total, 35 Middle-Eastern and Asian designers will present their collections.

International Festival of African Fashion (FIMA)

October 25 - November 1

With recent developments such as the ARISE fashion collective and joint fashion weeks in South Africa as well as fashion shows by African designers in the international fashion capitals, the continent's fashion design is on the advance, but this festival started a decade ago and has proven to be a reliable indicator for Africa's brands. The organizers will also host an annual showcase for new designers, called 'L'Afrique est à la mode' ('Africa is in fashion'), with financial rewards at stake.
