Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. It may be a mere 10 days into 2016 and whilst many of us are still digging around the last of the Quality Streets, over the pond things have got a whole lot more glamorous.

Alicia Vikander, Saoirse Ronan and Bree Larson may not enjoy the household name status of fellow nominees such as Cate Blanchett, but they more than held their own in the style stakes.
Here's the full run-down of who wore what at the 2016 Golden Globe awards:
Other notable mentions go to Jennifer Lawrence who appeared in a sleek red dress with discreet tummy cut-out details - possibly her best Dior look to date.
Kirsten Dunst went for a gothic inspired look in a dramatic gown by Valentino, complete with plunging neckline.
Kate Hudson dared to bare in a revealing cropped top and skirt combo by Versace.
Twenties inspired looks were presented by Cate Blanchett in an ethereal Givenchy couture gown and Heidi Klum in a fringed Marchesa, Maggie Gyllenhaal also went vintage inspired in Marc Jacobs.
