Harvey Weinstein accused of threatening actresses into wearing his wife's fashion label

Harvey Weinstein has been accused of threatening A-list stars into wearing his fashion designer wife’s designs on the red carpet.

Weinstein’s wife Georgina Chapman has now left the disgraced Hollywood producer over the sexual assault scandal that has broken over the past week, but it’s now being alleged he took supporting his wife to extremes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Weinstein pressured top actresses, including Sienna Miller, into wearing his wife’s label in the spotlight, making them scared that he’d hinder their careers otherwise.

Chapman, 41, set up Marchesa in 2004 and has battled criticism that her label only took off thanks to her husband’s influence for over a decade.

According to an LA publicist, “He was the mastermind behind Marchesa — orchestrating deals and using his influence in terms of the celebrity connections for her on behalf of the brand.”

Another publicist claims that Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman was told by Weinstein that he wouldn’t financially support the promotion of her 2005 film Transamerica if she didn’t wear Marchesa on the red carpet.

And the same publicist told of an alleged incident with Sienna Miller. Just after starring in Weinstein’s 2006 film Factory Girl, she was considering a dress by another designer for the Golden Globes.

However, because she would be sitting with Weinstein and Chapman at the event, Miller was told by “her camp” that “he would be very upset if she didn’t wear Marchesa.”

Stars who have acted in Weinstein’s films and also work Marchesa on the red carpet over the past 13 years include Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lawrence, Sandra Bullock, Halle Berry, Jennifer Lopez and Cate Blanchett.

Whilst it can’t be assumed that any of these actresses was pressured into doing so by Weinstein, many people have taken to social media encouraging others to boycott the fashion label as a result of the sexual assault and rape allegations Weinstein faces.

However, with Chapman having today announced she is leaving Weinstein, perhaps she will be able to salvage Marchesa’s reputation.
