As we bid adieu to the summer in exchange for cooler climes, a flurry of beauty trends that signify the change in season are upon us, and what says autumn/winter better than a set of flushed cheeks?

It’s a look that most of us Britons are used to sporting when the frost hits, but why wait until then?

Luckily, you don’t have to because, thanks to a host of designers and makeup artists, blusher is officially back.

Before you reach for your old powder blush though, we should warn you that this contemporary take on the trend calls for creamy consistencies alone.

In fact, a number of the flushed faces that graced the runways this season weren’t created using blusher at all.

Bobbi Brown, Pretty Powerful Pot Rouge, £22, Selfridges

At Christopher Kane, makeup artist Lucia Pieroni achieved wintry fresh skin by blending colours from Nars’s new Audacious Lipstick Palette into models’ skin with her fingers.

Similarly, Zoe Taylor, the head makeup artist at House of Holland, used lipstick from Lord&Berry to create a wind-flushed cheek for a collection inspired by urban hiking.

Cloud Paint, £15, Glossier

Not everyone avoided traditional blusher though. Both Loewe and Prabal Gurung’s models were awash with rosy faces but these came with a fresh, luminescent effect created using dewy products such as Mac’s Extra Dimension Skinfinish.

To translate this trend into real life wear, you can take inspiration direct from the runway and apply your chosen shade of lippie to your cheeks.

Or, if you don’t feel comfortable with that technique, opt for a liquid or cream blusher instead.

Simply tap the product sparingly into the apple of your cheeks and blend outwards towards the ear. Just remember to start sparingly, safe in the knowledge that you can always add more if needed.
