Leggy trends: the beginning of the end for skinny jeans?

Skinny jeans, the snug denim style that has, thanks to Kate Moss, dominated the past decade, could be on the way out.

While they still very much remain the uniform of fashionable women worldwide - much to the chagrin of their other halves, by the way, who seemingly never really got used to the look - the first look at the new jeans collections indicate a change of style towards the much more flattering bell bottoms that first surfaced in the 1970s.

Star stylist Rachel Zoe, for instance, who has long been wearing the widely flared jeans herself, just created a new pair ($169) for denim brand 7 for All Mankind, the ever-stylish Olsen twins also included bell bottoms ($245) in the debut denim line for their label, Elizabeth and James, and one of the most-followed labels of Paris fashion week, Balmain, presented pants that looked like office clothes that could double as disco wear for fall.

It is true that the hippie-inspired silhouette is much more flattering on many body types. However, with fashion's obsession of statement shoes, it is unclear how many women would be willing to sacrifice an eyecatching heel for slimmer-looking hips.

Also, would a new trend like this mean the end of leggings, which have again become a wardrobe staple worldwide, too? The fact that Lindsay Lohan has just announced the expansion of her legging label 6216 into ready-to-wear would certainly suggest so.

In any case, designers will be focusing on new ways of attracting looks to the legs come fall: Rebecca Taylor will release a range of Swarovski crystal-studded tights in July, while most editors' bets are on leg warmers as the season's biggest trend.
